Five Tips to Improve Your Local Search SEO

Nobody uses the phonebook anymore, and nobody is dialing 411 when they’re out of town looking for a business or a service to use. In fact, 43 percent of consumers do a local search every month, and nearly 60 percent of consumers perform a local search six times throughout a calendar year.

Those numbers may not be so impressive – we admit that – but hold on. Of those people searching locally for businesses, 55 percent of them made a purchase within an hour of searching!

Local search is only becoming more and more common, and as your trusted Denver internet marketing company, we encourage you to implement the following:

  1. NAP Consistency: Names, addresses, and phone numbers for your business should be consistent all across the board, no matter what medium they appear on. Our pro tip is to use the address that Google maps assigned to your business (use Rd. instead of spelling out Road).
  2. Focus on Title Tags: Google is beginning to focus more and more on title tags because they want to know a user’s motives behind a search. For example, if we wanted to increase our contact with users, our page title tag would read: Denver SEO Services – The Great Online, or Denver Internet Marketing Company – The Great Online.
  3. Localize your Product and Service Pages: The goal here is to meld your products/services with unique local content directly on your domain to capture location-specific product searches. Pepper your pages with local news in Denver, business reviews, community events, sponsor non-profits, and have a call to action to drive users to subscribe to a newsletter or request an appointment.
  4. Links are still your friend: The only way to build trust, relevancy, and a positive online reputation (in Google’s eyes) is through a strong linking profile. That, coupled with “unique local content”, leads you to a positive and organic link profile. On-domain blogs are great ways to achieve this, especially if you can get an organization like your local Chamber of Commerce or related industry association to share your posts. Other options to increase your visibility would be to host local events, enter contests, sponsor meetups, and do anything necessary to form relationships with local influencers (for your offline reputation).
  5. Build a collection of customer reviews: You will find that the best content comes directly from your customers. Google likes customer reviews, and so do your customers – it’s a win-win. If your location page can port and integrate reviews when it appears, you need to take full advantage of that.
